Version 1.0 · Native macOS app

Get your files
back.

Reclaim is a native macOS app for recovering data from damaged, formatted or unreadable drives — a modern alternative to DMDE. Quick scans, deep file carving and ddrescue-style disk imaging. Your drive is only ever read, never written to.

Read-only scanning NTFS · FAT · exFAT · HFS+ · APFS No account, no cloud

An illustration of the file browser — recovery chance is rated for every file before you restore it.

Built for when things go wrong

Serious recovery, made approachable.

Everything you need to find, preview and restore lost files — from a quick undelete to a full rescue of a failing disk.

Five file systems

NTFS, FAT12/16/32, exFAT, HFS+ and unencrypted APFS — with deleted-file recovery for every one of them.

Deep scan · 40+ file types

Finds lost partitions and carves files straight from the raw data: JPEG, PNG, HEIC, RAW, MP4, MOV, PDF, DOCX, SQLite, ZIP and many more.

Repairs damaged structures

Broken GPT or MBR, lost boot sectors, corrupt $MFT — Reclaim falls back on backup headers, mirrors and backup FATs.

ddrescue-style disk imaging

Failing drive? Copy it first. Bad areas are skipped, then retried sector by sector. The map file is ddrescue-compatible, so you can resume.

Browse, filter & preview

Folder tree, search, a thumbnail gallery and Quick Look previews. Filter by deleted, file type or recovery chance.

Safe, careful restore

Keeps folder structure and dates, never overwrites anything, writes a CSV report — and blocks you from restoring onto the drive you're recovering from.

Drive health at a glance

S.M.A.R.T. status, temperature, power-on hours and media errors — plus one-click unmounting of the drive's volumes.

Sector view & .dmg images

Inspect raw sectors in a hex viewer, open .dmg and raw disk images, and read NTFS-compressed files (LZNT1).

Command-line tool included

reclaim-cli ships inside the app — list drives, scan, deep-scan, image and recover from scripts or over SSH.

Your data comes first

Read-only by design.

Reclaim never writes to the drive you're rescuing. Scan it, image it, browse it — and restore what you find to a different disk, with nothing overwritten along the way.

  • The source drive is opened for reading only
  • A per-file recovery-chance rating and corrupt-image warnings
  • Everything runs locally — no account, no upload, no telemetry
  • Image first, scan the image — keep a failing drive alive

Requires macOS 14 or later. The app is unsigned — the first time, right-click it in Applications and choose Open. Reclaim asks for your administrator password when scanning a drive, and opens it read-only.
